Al-Sahir - an Og mage, Entry 6
Well I thought I’d start writing my next journal. Number 6. I’m currently
level 39 but I wanted to get an early start on this journal and get everything
off my mind while I could. I have a great memory but very forgetful when it
comes to ideas. How ironic eh? The summary of the last 4 and continuing one can
be summarized as follows: BSD, BSD, BSD, Nerfus Buffus working (YAY!), BSD,
Simalacrum quest, personal removal from experience chain, and finally pledging
to my old patron. I also am going to start playing a dagger template when BSD is
having a down day. Things are also getting interesting magic wise. Looks like 7s
will start at level 40 although not as many schools as I thought. After hitting
40 today(the 22nd) I hit a base skill of 230 in Life and Creature. Looks like
sevens in two schools out of four. Time to bug Emalia for VI scrolls :)
I’d like to talk about BSD again. I know its boring but I feel 6s add a whole
new light to BSD. I can now robe hunt. I know, I know, people say that your able
to robe hunt without 6 level item spells. You know what I say to them? I say try
and take on 4 or 5 tuskers at a time with level 5 items on your robe. Even with
6 life protects you take a beating. You really do take a beating. I do admit
though you take a beating with 6 level items but it doesn’t hurt as bad and
you have a bit more of a protection bubble. I hope my BSD days will be coming to
an end. Once I get creature and life 7s I am out of there. It is starting to
remind me of my EQ days. I used to stay at a place for 5 levels at a time then
move on, rinse and repeat. Well, I’ve been at BSD since 30 or so full time. I
may get a level a day but sooner or later I will crack. I’ve been having
intense cravings for banana’s lately. Very strange...
I would also like to admit something to you all. I want to be open about this
and I can’t hide it anymore. I would like you all to know I am a Decal addict.
I LOVE Decal. I have LOADS of applets. I do have a few favorites though that are
used the most. CypherAmp, Topherons Doom, Sixth Sense, Nerfus Buffus, and Mage
Minder. The last 4 I feel are neccessary. Topherons Doom is great for me to see
how much experience I am getting a kill. It actually allowed me to find a major
bug in the fellowship code the other day. This is a MUST download plug in. Sixth
Sense is GREAT for hard to find monsters but certainly not needed. It is
certainly a convenience. Mage Minder is an AMAZING plug-in. It saves mages loads
of time. I feel it is another MUST download. It warns you when your componentss
are low and your buffs are running out. It becomes nearly non-existent to your
perceptions after you use it all the time. It just becomes natural to buff up
when it pops up to tell you your buffs are running out. Nerfus Buffus I feel is
a major help BUT it takes a good bit of know how to get it working. I had to
download the new dll, place that in then use regsvr32.exe to register the DLL.
After that things worked smoothly but to use regsvr 32.exe you need to be handy
with DOS commands. At least I feel that is the easiest way I can think of a few
other ways to run Regsvr32 though. If I get enough feedback I can write a Nerfus
Buffus how-to for all of you WITH pictures. Lets just say it buffs faster than I
can, I can finally find restroom break time, and it doesn’t lose its’ place
like I do.
I’m sure your all wondering about the Fellowship bug I mentioned in my earlier
paragraph? Well it all came about in one of them there BSD fellowships. We had
someone in the fellow that was to low so the percentages were all screw, he then
left. According to the fellowship screen the percentages were back to normal....
or were they? The group left to kill tuskers and as we were killing guards
topheron’s doom kept saying I was only getting about 2k for a tusker guard.
Hmm I though, something is wrong here. Well I kept watching to make sure and
right as rain whenever I killed a guard it was only 2k. I let the fellow know
and then a few seconds later another person noticed. After about 2 minutes of
bugging the fellow we went to the top in reformed. Low and behold the experience
was back to normal. The Moral of this story? Whenever someone screws up the
fellow percentages and exits the fellow, regroup the fellow.
The other day I went on the Shield of the Simalacrum quest. It was certainly
interesting.

SPOILER START
*****************************************
I portaled into the dungeon and buffed up EVERYTHING. It took a good 7 minutes
or so for some reason. I then ran through the dungeon. I read a quest spoiler
and it pretty much said keep going north. I went north, north, north, and north
some more. I didn’t felt till the end and I didn’t even know it but I was
fighting the northern infiltrator. I ended up killing all the crafty simalacrums
and then noticed the infiltrator. A vuln later along with about 5 or 6 resists
he was dead. I believe I used Acid Vuln and a war 6 and a war 5. I then looted
the shield. Here’s where things got bad. I go back to rebuff. I then notice
I’m running VERY low on components even after splitting peas. The mistake I
made was messaging a guild member to log in because I was at the end in the
hall. Well about 5-10 minutes of mis-communication and confusion later he left
disgusted and frazzled. This was mainly my fault. I have to admit I’m the type
of person who has to do something before he can get the full gist of what is
going on. I apologized and went to recomp. I FINIALLY convinced him to come back
after pleading that I’d give him the shield and giving my apologies. He buffs
up and logs to save his buffs while I buff up. It takes 5 minutes to buff
everything with Nerfus. He then logs back in and we run north, north and north
some more. Barely fighting till the end. We then reach the end to the
infiltrator. The first time through I yield him, vuln, then war the infiltrator
to death. My buddy WYSIWYG II grabs the shield and then is a happy little camper
for the rest of the night. I believe he was near ecstatic. Believe it or not
WYSIWYG II killed the infiltrator next time around. I magic yielded it and some
how he was able to double hit him with his dagger skill for 70. That was up from
about 6 points of damage. Weird stuff eh? Well we let the other dagger there
loot this shield. After that I left to log and go to bed. It was a happy ending.

SPOILER END

On a final note I left the allegiance’s XP chain. I just missed my old patron
Emalia who I spoke so much of in my last few journals. I just didn’t feel like
home in the XP chain not to mention its not what I thought it would be. I would
like everyone to know try an XP chain and see if you like it but make sure your
patron will take ya back :) You never know if you’ll like your 30 day trial
period or not.
Goals:
Well after hitting 200 focus and self at level 38 I didn’t have to many other
goals besides getting creature between 230-250 base by level 40(achieved in life
and creature). After that all my magic skills will be between 5-10 points closer
to getting to 7s because of the creature 7s I will be casting. By 45 I am at
casting 7s in all four schools. I’m also planning on raising mana, stamina,
and health. I am also going to work on ManaC. Buffing takes to long. BSD buffing
takes 3:00 minutes on average with around 30 buffs including mana buffs. I might
start raising strength after that just to even things out. Skill wise I will be
getting lockpick in my 40s and I hope to be carving singularity keys in my mid
to late 40s. After 45 the sky is the limit.
