10.26.01 - Welcome to Dark Majesty
I haven't got my copies yet so I haven't seen it but information is starting to trickle in. I of course will keep you updated with all the mage related information that comes out of the expansion. Preliminary information tells us of some new freaking awesome orbs that completely debilitate your opponent. And the juiciest information is that there's a rumor of a new skill point point quest. GET DOWN AND BOOGIE that's sweet news. Although this is good news for everyone in game I would say that no class will benefit more from this than BM. 45-50 level are the toughest levels for a BM and now they could be eliminated. Sweetness and Light.
Got DM News? either email it to me and I'll post it or post it on our message boards.

10.26.01 - This and that
Had a business trip this week and have been extremely busy so I haven't had a chance to update things here. I'm working as fast as I can to answer all your emails, message board post, etc. Also I'm aware that the Warhead chronicles are still not working. I don't know why I'm having so much problems with these things. Looks like I'm going to have to go down a different route than I was wanting to go. Anyway for now if you really want to look at them use this link I'll make a news update when I get them up to the way I like them.
10.19.01 - Another Mage guide
Over on Stratics there's a really nice new mage guide. It's also go some user fiction attached to it. Very well done a good read for anyone.
10.18.01 - Topheron's Doom
This has been out for a month or so but not many know about it. Keba has created an excellent decal plugin that calculates the xp earned in game from various actions. I highly suggest that if you use decal and are interested to see what creatures you are fighting yields the most xp, then you really need this plugin. Soon there will be an xp gathering project on CoD and this will be the tool used to gather that information. So get a head start and download this today Kebas Plugins for Decal
10.17.01 - The Legend is gone
Just some brief news that Animal one of the first BMs has been hacked and deleted. Yes this account has been sold a few times, but the original was a pioneer in AC and accomplished many feats. This is terrible news for anyone but kind of a shame since this character was such an icon.
10.16.01 - Dizz reviews Anarchy online
Nope not AC related but this site still carrys my name so I still get to pretty much do what I want. I've been playing AO this last week and wrote up a review of it from my perspective. If you're even slightly interested in AO give it a read
10.15.01 - Warhead Back online
Yes I know the links for warhead have been broken a long time. Warhead sent me his entire site before he left AC in preparation for the time when the site wouldn't exist anymore, it just took me a while to get it all uploaded and such. Anyways instead of making it conform to my site, I just uploaded the whole site as is and that will now become his section. If you haven't read Warhead's stuff now's a good time, he was a very good and powerful BM.
10.12.01 - Emeraldwind and Fahrenheit additions
Boy these 2 have been doing a bang up job lately of getting new journals out. As always, I'm so happy to host these 2 and highly suggest you read them.
10.11.01 - Patch Round Up
Alright, it looks like everything important has just about been discovered so I'll run down all the items that effect us and a little bit of commentary on each. As always please visit Maggie's Site for her write up on this event
New Mana Stones Breakage - First I want to talk about the new mana stone destruction rate being set to 10%. I've heard nothing but whining on this and it really pisses me off. As a mage you should be rejoicing and jumping from the hills for this little improvement. First as a mage we don't carry every piece of loot we have back to the shop to sell, we are almost always overburdened and I know I rarely pick up anything that's value isn't at least 8 times its burden. But now we can take some empty mana stones along and all the heavy junk we just drain the mana out of and... What you don't know what to do with it? Come on how many of you actually keep your focusing stone full? The stone holds like 18000 mana just dump it all in there and then we also have this mana sucking Mage Armor. Trust me this is mage love in a big way.
Trade Mana Elixers - Easily made so these are great. Have your favorite trade mule make you up some today. About 10 or so should be enough for a week. You just keep them in your hot slots and use them when you're in trouble, like when that nighmare wisp drains you.
Impulse Gem Duration - Another huge plus. Use these for any quest now. I'm already arranging a secondary character who's sole purpose in life is to collect these for Dizz.
New Mask Wands - Nothing good here, just fluff
New Items
- Obsidian Director's Mask - Impen V, Focus V, Invuln V diff 190, AL 120 - Not bad if you have the Arcane Lore to use.
- Virnidi Shroud - Impen V, Magic Resist V, Willpower 5, Invuln V diff 200 - Combined with the mask above this really isn't a bad set.
- Doll Leader's Charm - Focus V, War IV diff 100 - Ahh the honey pot, Many BM's will be running to this item. It should become a highly sought after item
Doll Leader's Charm
Value
3000 Burden 60 Spells Focus IV, War Magic Mast IV. Spellcraft 300 Mana x/600 Mana Cost 1-30 Difficulty 100 Restrictions War Magic 190+ House Recall? - Not much is known about this this yet so speculation is running wild. But like I've said many time this does change a lot of things. Even though it doesn't appear to be an actual spell it will be one more item in our arsenal of portal related items that get us around Dereth. Remember if your buying a house choose it's location carefully.
I was really expecting more out of this patch but with the expansion coming in a few weeks I guess this is good enough.

10.9.01 - Apprentice Robes and other new stuff
Some of you might be interested to see what the apprentice robes look like now that they've been de-nerfed. So I went and got a shot of all the gharu ones for you ApprenticeRobes.jpg
It's still early yet but it looks like there will be some more mage items. First off we are getting some play wands with heads on them kinda groovy looking but otherwise worthless. Also it appears there's a new bracelet that will be a great benifit to many mages. Lastly for those mages that arcane lore a new virindi mask has Focus 5 on it. Complete details will come later.
10.9.01 - Build Notes
Mmm juicy. Roll out and Dev Notes. Here's the highlights I picked up on that effect us.
10.9.01 - Big Patch Day Ahead
*sniff*... *sniff*... you smell that? this smells like it's going to be a good one. :) I'll be jumping in as soon as it's up to bring you the scoop and watching every resource I have to bring you the latest mage news. To start us off there's a new A Letter to the Players You should read this regardless, but a few of the things that are of interest specifically to mages is the new Mana Elixirs. Your favorite alchemist should now be able to make these for you, I know I've been using mana ice cream of of mine but the elixirs should be easier on the alchemist to make ( no cooking required). Next something special is going to happen with mana stones, some are saying a spell to infuse them other something else. Time will tell. Any new news please post in this thread Happy Patch day everyone! Post all new news here
10.5.01 - See it's not a flashing potato

10.4.01 - Mage FAQ release
Man are my eyes blurry, this was a lot of work. But I believe the AC Mage Faq is finally finished. This will be an every changing document so check back often to see what's new. I'll be checking the message boards for new questions to add and for revisions but if you would like a question or comment on the faq you can post on this thread pub55.ezboard.com/fdizzsbattlemageforumsfrm11.showMessage?topicID=39.topic
10.4.01 - Fahrenheit is on a roll
Yet another Fahrenheit is available. Check out this thread Fatigue 08 (Battlemage Journal) then tell him how much you love these things.
10.4.01 - Dark Sorcerer's Phylactery
It does exist, I haven't seen too many in game so this is kind of a rarity. Nort sent in a very nice picture of the new orb and a little note.
Thought you might want to post a pic of one of those Dark Sorcerer's Phylactery....they do exist......lol I found 4 Dark Sorcerer's on the island that has the Jungle Sub.....He seems to spawn randomly (on the jungle sub island and I think sanctuary...from reports that I have seen). He drop'd on the 3rd kill....seems to always drop a sik and undead bone on every kill. Hope you decide to post it.....not much good to us BM's but it looks cool !!!Nort Lev 61 BM

09.30.01 - Even more Emeraldwind
Wow she's on a role, and man I'm so glad she is. This is a quite exceptional entry also so I highly recommend it. You can check it out here Part08 There are lots of pretty pictures and it goes into great detail about Emerald getting her mage armor.
Also Emeraldwind is doing some research on what monsters are spawning where and she wants your help. Here's the request from the lady herself.
I'm trying to put together a Hunting Guide for the New Dereth and I need submissions for various places... like good places for various levels to hunt in. If you could post that I'm looking for this and my email ( emeraldwindofleafcull@hotmail.com ) for the submissions, this would REALLY help me out! Thanks soooooooooo much.
09.26.01 - Dev Chat and Commentary
I'll just be covering the items that pertain to mages. That's right I'll sort through the junk so you don't have to :) Full transcript can be found here on stratics
Da_HumAn in AsheronsCall asks: Will the new spawns stay or go back the way it was before sometime? =)
cardell_turbine says: That is largely up to the virindi.
cardell_turbine says: But to give you some insight, do drudge raveners ever become prowlers again?
cardell_turbine says: Generally, once the Virindi fiddle with something, it stays fiddled with...
cardell_turbine says: Look at Martine.
Dizz says: Good, I hope the silly virindi produce a lot more of the creature and pack them in tighter. OH and dear god I hope they put their pets back to workGuest_Aesop in AsheronsCall asks: Are there any plans to have a 'house recall' spell with the release of Dark Majesty? Or can you not comment on that?
kentroop_turbine says: Yes, there are plans to have house recall functionality.Dizz says: hmm now this is interesting news, Think about it. A house that's way out in the bonnies may be desirable just to have another tie to somewhere out of the way. Or even better close to a master mage etc.. Think before you buy will be the theme
Squeegeeman1 in AsheronsCall asks: Hi, are the Tundra matty Robes supposed to protecet the head, or not?
cardell_turbine says: Yes, it is a bug.Dizz says: Expect the value to go even higher than they currently are
Guest_Lalledusken in AsheronsCall asks: This Question has been asked hundreds of time on the Community boards and never answered, Is there a chance to lower the cost of Plat Scarabs?
cardell_turbine says: There is always a chance. But I highly doubt it.Dizz says: Good try but the answer was very predictable.
K that's pretty much it, lots of questions concerning the upcoming expansion but really not that much new information. Also was it me? or did this one seem awfully short.

09.24.01 - Ohh Ahh New Emeraldwind
Well what a welcome surprise. Our girl Emeraldwind has produced a brand spanking new journal entry. Not only is this a new journal but it's the first journal post patch that covers the new spawns. Good reading for all I highly recommend it.
09.20.01 - ARGGG
Well I've just realized that no one has been able to see any new news since the 300lb gorilla. I'm trying to get it all updated as fast as I can. Zanten's stuff takes a while to upload so please bare with me. *grumble*
09.17.01 - Journals of a Critter First BM
Now more than ever creature first BMs are becoming a viable option in Dereth. Zanten is one of the big pushers of this play style for BMs. At first he received a lot of grief for even suggesting this but now things are changing and through his journals he has changed many mage's minds. I'm very proud to have him on board giving his diaries. Ohhh and look they have pictures :)
09.17.01 - Battlemages in the new Dereth
File this under commentary. I'm not going to pretend I'm the expert but I have been asked about 5 times a day 1 of these 3 questions. And I do have some answers
Are item first BMs doomed?
I'm an item first BM at level X, Now that tuskers are gone what should I hunt?
I just rolled a BM should I take item or creature first?I could answer these individually but they all pretty much have the same answer, So let me start by saying that NOTHING has changed for a BM below level 40. You're going to be leveling on pretty much the same stuff as before the patch. If anything these BMs are going to have a wider variety of monsters to fight. Now sure you are probably going to have to move your hunting ground but change is good, right? This leads me to the next point. Everyone is having to change their outdoor hunting routine. Get out see Dereth and find new things to hunt. It's fun, it's exciting and it's what the game should have always been like. Now to get to the nitty gritty I have eluded to the fact that life has changed for a BM levels 40-50 and it has. If you were planning on powerleveling on tuskers on the Plains then yes it has changed, BUT if you were going to be powerleveling in BSD or at tusker camps nothing has changed. So now we are left with a small group of people that were planning on leveling outdoors on tuskers. Well things have changed for you. Quantity is now your key word, find heavily populated areas of anything and plow through them. This does imply you are going to have to explore and find this high population areas but I trust if you are this type of player you will have already done so.
This takes care of the first 2 question now the last and hardest question, Item or Creature? The decision hasn't got any easier and the requirements haven't changed. If you want to take creature first you are going to have to have at least 1 if not 2 portal mules to move you around. If you have this at your disposal then I suggest you read Zanten's stuff and see if it's for you (His Journals will be online sometime today check back soon). Otherwise item is still very viable and alive.
Lastly if I hear 1 post 50 BM complain about the new Dereth I will make sure that turbine nerfs you next patch. If this patch isn't graduated BM love I don't know what is. I'm having more fun than I've paid for.
Have fun and Blow Stuff up!
09.13.01 - The Aftermath of the Patch
As always if your looking for the best and most accurate information on the new patch I direct you Maggies Kick Ass site and her new section on this patch : Keep Your Enemies Closer
New Spawns : Well in my opinion this has got to be one of the best patches to come down the pipes in a long while. I think the biggest news for mages, especially battlemages pre-50, is the spawn change. Leveling a BM might have just got tough, tuskers have run off the plains into other grounds. Where? well I haven't found high concentrations of them yet and everyone one on the boards are looking for them also. I'm suspecting up near Stonehold and the northwest corner of Oseth is going to be a very nice hunting area. I went to the bandit castle yesterday and was very surprised what I found there. I'm calling for all mages to get off your duff and report in what you find on our boards. Don't just complain about the new changes make a difference and help your fellow mages. Starting a thread here to report what is spawning and where
New Interface : Another excellent change, especially for us mages. Not only have they added spell durations but the stretch UI makes it easy to see more of your spells at once. Now you can see the 30+ buff you may have on and tell when they will expire. Also a side effect to this is that I'm finding it easier to identify loot so that means less time muling and shopping. So the question is do we get rid of Mage Minder? hard to say and I'm not for sure I will. Mage minder has 2 functionalities that the games solution doesn't. 1 minute warnings and low comp warnings. Now I know some of you turn these options off and if you do then you probably can turn off the mage minder. But I've become very use to the 1 minute warning so I believe I'll be keeping mage minder. Both solutions seem to be reporting the same durations so nothing to worry about there here's a screen I took of both of them running NewUi.jpg

What we do have are some nice new orbs for mages that have Arcane lore. (Information and pictures provided by Maggie) I know my old mage would kill to have such an orb although I don't know if people will use this over a focusing stone. Next there is a new robe with protections similar to a matty robe. If your a robe wearer at all you need to get one of these. They are found on Tundra Mattys which are apparently pretty rare. I know I'm going hunting for one tonight.

09.12.01 - Rollout and Build notes
Wow word is that the patch is up. I haven't tried yet but will as soon as possible. Here are the highlights and comments to the Build Notes and Rollout notes that pertain to mages and that I didn't comment on yesterday.
Sanctuary Recall and Recall to Aerlinthe spells have now been fixed. Players using these spells should no longer experience client lockups after they arrive at their destination.
Holy Recall Batman! They fixed it! It's about bloody time :)
The Four Towers Impious Staff npc was not spawning due to a bug, this should be fixed now.
Ah good. This is one of my favorite quest and the last time we tried to do it we had a nice person let us in, we were lucky.
09.11.01 - Patch News
On the brighter side, our coveted time of the month has come. We've all see the teaser and commented on it. Now in the letter to the players we see housing and even see that monsters all over have been re-located, this has been a HUGE gripe of mine for a long time and this actually one of the more exciting news items I've seen on the event. Also it looks like a lot of us may be dropping the use of mage minder if turbines solution is as good as the original. Lastly we see the addition of a new orb, a new mage item (a crown) and new color for robes which always gets us mages a little giddy.
Ok now I'm in a much better mood.
Post all new finds here for this site : Got Patch News?

09.06.01 - Level 7 spells on Items?
ACSage.com has posted another edition of Turbine Talk. In this edition Fitzben asked :
Fitzbean:
Ok, I was wondering... With the addition of Lvl 7 War, Item and Creature, and the eminent (I fear) addition of Level 7 Life spells, will items finally start spawning some of these new spells? For example, BD VII weapons, STR VII rings, etc. It seems only fair to give the melee players even a chance against a Level 7 vuln and a Level 7 war spell. I know, dead either way, but these spells are going to be needed on items, otherwise the Melee Vs. Mage situation is more uneven than ever.
Fitzbean,
Time for a role-playing standpoint answer. Level 7 spells are the height of a magic-users career, the tantamount moment when they have harnessed the newly reborn energies of Dereth into the coalescence of spells that were once unattainable. That being said, at this point in time it can be stated that there are no immediate plans for items imbued with this immense power into the world. Basically it would take some time for the artisans of jewelry in Dereth to devise the ways to imbue the gems and metals with these most powerful spells. Will they be able to do this? Perhaps in time, but at the present they are behind schedule.

08.31.01 - Can we please fix the Level VI spells so they last longer than V's?
This Question was asked of the developers over on the vault. Here's the response
This question touches on another highly debated question, that of spell economy. Spell economy has a direct effect upon the duration of spells, and can account for the disparity between the length of level VI spells and Level V spells. The changes made to spell duration were done to make hunting a less tedious process for all levels, yet the standard duration for level VI spells was not touched as it was considered to be adequate enough. The base duration for Level V spells is equal to the standard for Level VI spells which can only lead to the conclusion that the higher percentage of players using level VI spells are changing the economy of the spell and thereby reducing the duration.
Allan Maki
Turbine Community RepresentativeWow I'm glad turbine explained the spell economy to us mages *rolls eyes* I think we all know what's going on the question is what are you doing to fix it? He acts as though he's surprised that I a majority of players, after a year and half of game play, are able to cast level 6 spells. If they fell that the durations are correct then that means there is a problem with the spell economy which we've all know for a very long time. Why can't they commit to fixing it?

08.31.01 - Why is there such a thing as Resist
"Magic Systems - Why is there such a thing as Resist" You can find it on his news page as the 2nd item.Mysha over at forwardartillery.net has done a nice little rant on
In today's popular MMP games resisting spells is handled differently in each instance, but have similar basic concepts. In Asheron's Call, as most of you know, magic resist is a skill you can "dump points into". Of course the effectiveness of such a skill is extremely nerfed. Creatures however, benefit greatly from magic resist. Everyone knows Tusker Guards are not very resistant to magic, where as Virindi Executioners are almost completely resistant. There exist a wide variety of "in betweens". A relationship between the caster's skill level and the creature's magic resistence is often a check made to determine whether the spell casted had any effect at all. As I recall if a resist takes place, no damage is taken and no effects occur. This is an all or nothing situation. Of course it is possible to get high level where virtually everything in the game NEVER resists you, and that is the ultimate goal of player's still playing Og mages and such. They want to be able to own everything in the game with no bumps or hitches along the way. If you are willing to kill an absurd mass quantity of things or have an absurb quantity of vassals this is a possibility.
Very insightful look at magic systems, I recommend this read.
I'd like to hear your comments on this here Why is there such a thing as Resist?
08.30.01 - Dizz's Level 7 Spell Tracker
If your like me and working on getting all of the important level spells in you spell book then you know it's nearly impossible to keep up with all the scrolls you have in storage and what you have learned. Also if you start trading them it only adds to the complexity. Well working off a spreadsheet that Yom of Leafcull provided, I have rearranged it to do exactly this. It takes some time to fill it out but once you do it's a real time saver.
I've put this in the Level 7 spell guide. You can find the direct link here.
Let me know what you think of it Level 7 Spell Tracking sheet
08.29.01 - Spam is bad mmmkay
I've sent this out in a global email to all registered users but I think it still deserves attention here in case you are just signing up or for some reason the email failed.
First off, I will only be using mass mailing in the most dire of situations where news post will not cover it. Since this topic covers past members of the site also I felt I had to use this function.
I have recently been made aware that Ezboard has been giving our email addresses out to spammers. I knew I was getting spam but wasn't aware that it was from EzBoard as I thought them to be an "honorable" company. Well I was wrong and I would like to personally apologize to you for putting you through some of the vial and annoying email that has been sent to you.
I was especially upset about this since we (the members of this board) have paid a premium price to have our board upgraded to free ourselves from advertising. Being that, I posted to the exclusive forum of Ezboard to get answers for this.
To sum this up one of the nicer Administrators gave the link to the spam delivier they use. Please go here http://www.postmastergeneral.com/privacy/antispam.html
This link is suppose to remove you from the spam they are sending. If it does not, I will continue to try and alleviate this problem.
Once again I'm sorry and hope you continue your patronage to my site.

08.28.01 - Weekly Fist de Yuma
The man who never stops, yet again gives us a entry to his journals.
Og vs. BM debate
I place, in pure power of mages, BM number one and Og a close second. As I get higher in level (75 now) I’m getting close to where yield is seldom used. Still I have spent double the points on War over Life to get War to within 19 points of my Life skill level. That is over 60 million points for a base 271 vs. 28 million for 290 Life.
The debate started with my old friend Zethgryn posting an essay on the VN board. I recommend you go read it at;

08.26.01 - New Disgruntled
Tokugawa has given us a new update to his Disgruntled Mage column.
Greetings,
The last journal was a controversial one, I plan on taking it a little bit easier this time, write a more philosophical journal and abstain from bashing a character class, although I think I should talk about the mage class sucking so bad. That would turn out well on a mage board, right!!!
The next one will probably wait a bit longer until mid-september.

08.24.01 - Message Board Highlights
As promised here's the weekly highlights of what's happened on the message boards. First and foremost I want to direct your attention to the work that Rincewind has been doing on the Battlemage board. He's has been telling the story of his, umm... erm.. less than honorable Battlemage. I don't care if you hate battlemages, I don't care if you hate reading fiction, I don't care what your excuse is. Read these things! They are a true treasure and so fun to read. You can find the first 3 chapters Gambler's Anonymous (Part I) (Part II) (Part III)
On our little used Old Schooler board, Tribal Priestess has posted a nice piece of ficton entitled The diaries of a misconstrued archmage. Chapt 1 Please check this out.
On the McWar Mage Board they are giving Thoughts on playstyle. Very nice read for any class.
On the OG Board they are try to figure out just How to make an og staffer. This board is picking up in popularity, Thanks!.
And in The Pub Loric Darkblade got up on his barstool and let off a nice little rant with Loric's Rants.
Finally in the Mage Issues forum they are asking if there is such a thing as a Self Supporting Mage?
Also one finally note I need your input on Board Titles. If you post on the message board then PLEASE reply to this post with input Board Titles - Suggestions Welcome
08.24.01 - Site Happenings
I don't know when it will happen but my web provider is moving servers sometime this week. I don't expect any down time but there will at some point be a roll back of site to sometime around the 13th or so. When that happens it will be up to me to put the site back to it's current state. Hopefully this will happen with little mess or fuss
08.21.01 - Lag issues
We are all aware of the lag going on in game right now. Ken Troop has spoken up about this his Letter to the Players for August 2001 and the worlds are coming down on Wednesday to help fix some of this as stated in the State of the Network. What I want to make all you mages aware of is your level 6 scrolls being exchanged for level 7's. During this time there has been reports of loosing level 6 scrolls when turning them in. If you have some highly valuable scrolls that you need to turn in for 7's I suggest you wait till these problems are alleviated.
Also I started a poll about this Would you continue to play AC in its current state
08.21.01 - Tips for using Keyboard Commands in Spellcasting
Dang someone beat me to it. This is a nice little essay on how to use your keyboard effectively in combat. If you don't currently use your keyboard in combat then this should be required reading. You can greatly increase your effectiveness in combat by breaking yourself of the mouse. This essay is available over on Maggie's site here http://www.thejackcat.com/AC/Ned/Tip6.htm
08.21.01 - Base To Buff Skill table now hosted
I mentioned this very nice table in the news last week and now this wonderful resource is available permanently on this site. You can find it in it's new home here Base To Buff Skills.
08.20.01 - Grandpa hits 80
The old man keeps on truckin and still insist that his template is a viably strong template. Well he's right check out this post here Grandpa Template hits 80th! This is really quite an amazing feat and one to be very proud of. Way to go Grandpa maybe we won't put you in a home after all :)
I am aware that for nearly a year now (in October) I have tried to promote this template with very little following. I had a post when I was level 70 of one 60+ player with this template that was actively playing. From what has been conveyed to me, getting to level 60 without item magic is the biggest problem, others have discounted the benefit of mana c specialized. At level 90, when I take healing, is really when I think this template will gain “better” popularity, and of course if I get to 120 and take lock-pick, the template is truly complete. I am committed to getting to 90th, but I can’t say I’d have the energy to go to 120, so level 90 would likely be my last update … the way I am leveling and getting exp from my chain, hopefully that will be in 3 months or so … so stay tuned! - Grandpa of Solcaim
08.18.01 - The Disgruntled Mage Spouts Off
Our very good friend and journal contributor, Tokugawa has started a new column here titled "The Disgruntled Mage." This column will be semi-regular and contain just about anything he feels like writing about. To kick this off he's started by covering the following topics in this edition.
Introduction
Bow Users
The good old thievery……
Battlemages
VassalsMake no doubt there's a lot of ranting going on in this column. Not that I agree with it all but I do love this column. Feel like he is just wrong? Tell him what you think in this thread : Journal of Tokugawa - 08/17/01
Also let me put up this Disclaimer : The views of The Disgruntled Mage are his own and do not reflect the views of this site or its patrons. :)
08.16.01 - Patch Stuff
Just to point you guys in the right direction if your looking for a complete compilation of patch information, I always suggest Maggie's Site.
Big update to the Crests of a Turbulent Sea patch page! Learn more about the Banners and locations of the 6 Tumerok Tribes and the new Assault Weapons! You can also see several more examples of finished banners, thanks to Edain of Leafcull and Loup Noir of Frostfell among others. - Maggie
Still nothing solid on whether we are getting new Magic staves this month, but it's looking less likely.
08.15.01 - Starter Guides
In our continual progression to the new Improved site there are now 2 new starter guides online
First is the most excellent OG Mage Guide written by Finges. Even if you don't want to play an Og mage read this guide. If you have some experience with the Og mage and want to help contribute of just comment on this guide please leave a message here : Og Starter guide Ver. 0.5
Next is the nicely done McWar Mage Guide written by our good friend Tribal Priestess. I guarentee this is the first guide ever on this class of mages and it's very well done. You can help or say thanks here : McWar Mage Starter Guide
Lastely I've made a few new additions to the Battlemage Starter guide.
Think you've got the stuff to make a Starter Guide? We still need one for the Opal mage and all the other variations of templates possible. Just find yourself an appropriate forum and have at it.
08.15.01 - Message Board Highlights
I'm probably going to start making this a regular feature on the news, say once a week or so.
First on the Opal Board, Zalren has started chronicling his Opal mage : my first journals of the opal mage template...
On the McWar Mage Board they are debating the new War Mage template added this prop by Turbine Definitive Conclusion to Name Confusion
The OG Board guys are bragging about their template in this thread What's the best part about an OG mage?
The Battlemages are still contributing Journals. Sylence has contributed 3 nicely done ones here, here and here. And by popular demand Trendkill has become the board Moderator.
The Pub has recieved a new moderator and everyone is already hassling him for a drink Meet your Bartender, Achilles the Brave
And lastly the Mage Issues forum has been debating this issue Should Turbine Make "Template" Items?
08.15.01 - New Magic Staves after all?
Reports are sketchy, and I haven't seen one yet but it appears with the new banners and hafts and such that we'll be able to make Magic Staves. And it looks like I'm going to be the first to post this. I'm not going to give exact details either. But take it this is all hear say.
Fact: There are 6 Banners, There a 3 reinforced Hafts and 3 regular hafts. Each haft has a required banner you can attach to it.
speculation : Banners determine spells, reinforced Hafts add a 2nd spell
Fact: There are 4 head piece to put on a haft Spear, Mace, Staff, and Wand? < This last one is disputed.
speculation : There are other pieces you can add too it to make them even more powerfulThis is going to be interesting as a lot of these items are rare finds and like the composite bows everyone will want the best there is.
Got more information? Post it on our boards here : Banners become Magic Staves
08.14.01 - Post Patch News
As the information comes in I'll post more. There's not a lot as far as first glances goes for us experienced mages but new mages are getting some nice little treats.
New BM Starting Spells - If your starting any new mage you will have many more spells to start.
Also of not are the new templates, the old gimpy templates have been removed and more streamlined templates have been put in. They still are not Uber by any means but a good starting point. Of particular interest the War Mage Template is actually a McWar mage that take arcane lore from the start.
08.14.01 - Pre-Patch News
Mage stuff from the Build notes http://zone.msn.com/asheronscall/news/augustbuild2.asp

Rollout notes are here http://zone.msn.com/asheronscall/news/augustrollout.asp
Looks like a heavy content month, or at least I hope.

08.10.01 - Man am I hung over
Well the get together was a success and I think everyone that showed up had a good time. I do appreciate all of you that took the time to stop by. I did record a log of the event if you didn't get to come. There's a lot of screwing around and drinking in it but there are some nuggets of information in there. Some exclusive information was made available for the first time to the public at this meeting so it might be worth going through if you weren't there.
Group shot of those that were left after 2 hours
If you want to see the aftermath of a party like this take a look at this shot : Meeting2Aftermath.jpg
08.09.01 - TONIGHT be on MorningThaw
Quick reminder that tonight is the night for the mage gathering. Please come all of your friends from this board will be here. I know there are a lot of lurkers for this site and you are especially welcome to come hang out too.
When : Tonight
Location : MorningThaw, Rithwic Fairgrounds 10.4n 53.8e
Times : 9 pm Eastern 8 pm Central 7 pm Mountain 6 pm Pacific
08.09.01 - Buffed Stats
Philip over at CoD has come up with a nice table showing generic stats when you buff them. Specifically he shows what level you can get Arcane lore at with different buffs and your primary skills. Very nice especially for those of you who do not have Arcane lore and are interested when you'll be able to use your focusing stone. Keep in mind though the spell economy can be cruel and these numbers are a little generous.
08.08.01 - Biggest Sale in AC History
This is truly amazing. Javhis monarch of the Phoenix Guard on MorningThaw has made a deal to sell his Matty Robe for 54,000,000 pyreals. As far as I know this is the largest sale of in game currency ever. Why would he do such a crazy thing? from the man himself
It's not the airport, or the upcoming housing, it's how I can spend time ingame.
Every minute I spend hunting for loot is another minute I cannot: 1) plan better quests for the guildfolk 2) hunt with guildfolk simply for the hunt 3) be red for the hell of it 4) stand around bs'ing 5) do whatever strikes me at the moment
A monster pile of pyreal = Freedom, which to me may very well be worth more than a matty. The airport he speaks of is basically a rotation of 10 portal mules on 2 accounts. An amazing feat in itself. But basically he's doing it for his guild, the Phoenix Guard. I find it an honor an privilege to be a member of this monarchy.
Discussion : Matty Robe for 54,000,000p
08.08.01 - New Journals
I hate getting behind on these. Anyway Fahrenheit our resident Story teller has weaved another excellent tell entitled The road of support.
And our Newest contributor Raecyn continues on with his stories with this one The Path of Death, Destruction, and Mayhem Chapter Five
Good stuff here folks, don't deprive yourself from reading them.
08.07.01 - 2nd Gathering of Mages Now set

Date : This Thursday August 8th
Location : MorningThaw, Rithwic Fairgrounds 10.4n 53.8e

The event will probably continue for 2 hours or so, so if you cann't make it till later that' fine. I know some of you live over seas and I'm sorry we just have to set a time and go with it. I'll be recording a log and posting it here for viewing on Friday.
No set activities are planned yet so give your ideas, or just let us know your coming here on this thread : 2nd Gathering of Mages, RSVP and Ideas for the events
08.07.01 - New Fist
I haven't posted these in the news section in a long time. I'm still not for sure if I need to as they are on every other news page out there. I've set up a poll to see if you think I should post these in the news, please tell me what you think. Should I post Fist de Yuma in the News?
Negative WI?
Now here is the amazing thing about all this. Not once in the entire quest did I have to use my healing kit! I have heard of the WI flag. I must have had the –WI flag. Even when running alone all that came close to hitting we were wasps. With my melee that was a miss.
08.03.01 - Mount Analysis
I love these type of things so here's another. Tanlin has done an analysis of an area that he's been hunting at in the mountains near Qualibar. Nice bit of info here, good information if you're into hunting luggies and matties.
08.03.01 - Hell Island a mage perspective
Mad Prophet over at the CoD board has done a very nice analysis of the new level 55+ island from a mage perspective that was put in this month. This does contain spoilers and Magic Defense numbers of new creatures.
