Diary of Tokugawa the Mage, Part II - Early Years

Part II - The Early Years (LvL 1-5)

I started my career as a battlemage at Leafcull in Rithwic. This has two reasons, one is the newbie beach close to town near the LS, the other one is the proximity of my most favorite town, Eastham, just a short run away.

Beginning Statistics: 70/40/10/10/100/100

Speced Skills: Life Magic, War Magic, Loyalty

Trained Skills: None

I have had several thoughts about the stats, mainly about the 100/10 version. My personal gameplay is heavily dependent on the STM spell, I found it invaluable to reduce downtime. I prefer to take fewer breaks rather than to be able to carry three sets of amuli armor at LvL 50, LOL. Therefor an endurance of 40 is the bare minimum for me. I tried the 100/10 template for five levels, too much frustration being slow AND unhealthy. My personal choice, I know others will disagree. It worked out for me as I can say now at LvL 37 with 165 strenght base.

After arriving in Rithwic and finishing the training hall to get my heatlth potion I went into town to buy some comps and learn some LVL I & II spells that I felt I needed like heal self, and the beloved STM. Cannot live without it.

I LSed next to the Soushi portal and then went to the river bed where I leveled up to LvL5 mainly off drudges and blue wasps. The latter are great for low level mages as they are a kill with vuln/bolt/bolt and they never even get close, just watch the war spells they cast. AND they drop gold letters. I got to LvL 5 here without problems, went into the Rithwic Crypt and actually got the SOLL key and found some Prowlers to get more gold letters.

At LvL 1 I created a mule with 100/100/10/100/10/10 to finish the explorer quest and Tokugawa the Mage went on for an evening off. I got the Live, War and Item Wand, the Focus, Endurance and quickness jewelry. Alltogther it was a four hour runaround to get everything. I do not know if I would call it a quest.

Equipped with the explorer items I felt strong and fast enough to dare to get to the ultimate town to level to at least LvL 10, EASTHAM, home of the beaches. I ran there…..and died. I went to the Rithwic river, got rid of the vitae and tried again. The first run I made the mistake to stay on the road, this time I changed my route in a way that allowed me ever since to run even the slowes mule to and from Eastham.

When on the horizon the two mountains appear to the east, the traveler of Dereth on his way to Eastham knows that the most troubling part of the way lies ahead of him, the part with the Reedsharks and Banderlings, after which the road takes a 90 degree turn to the north. I took the road until I saw the mountains and the first Bandies were coming up, then I went to the left and ran through the trees and groups of drudges and hit the road again after it made the turn. Key is, you run through dozens of drudges but you avoid the hard hitter, Reedsharks and Bandies. I lost five out of 50 healthpoints.

There I was, Eastham lay in the west at the horizon.

To be continued…………

Battle on friends, may Asheron look favorably upon your path.
