Part VIII - OP and South Direland Exploration (LvL 33-37)

So there I was, a LvL 33 Battlemage, LSed in Qualabar with a tie to the DM, things could not get better. DM draining gets boring so I decided to explore the outside around the DM. When you exit, in front of you is a changing spawn with drudges/virindi/grievers(!!) so check it out before you attack. Facing the portal with the back towards this spawn you can see a path to your right through the mountains. Take it to get to the Waijoi outpost (whatever, gonna call it WOP). You actually have to jump down to it with 20-30 HP loss. No problem I guess. Down there things are busy, the WOP is a three story building and is packed with drain monkeys on the balkonys, inside you can sell and buy stuff for horrendous prices. My kinda place. Now there is just one little problem there - the guys you use to get snake skin armor. They get dragged there by the drainers and then just kill everything in sight. Also you think a Tusker cannot get into the second story of a building……think again.

Well I decided to leave and find some drudges, I ran around to the south on the left river side, across the river is the LS. I found some little drudge spawns of about three Ravs each, worked well to get to know how to deal with them, that way I got up to LvL 35, in between some trips back to the DM to drain off vitae, again you can get good XPs in there by killing all drudges and all tuskers. I tried to go into a valley and deeper into the OP but here already was the first sign of my constant enigma ever since - no Tuskers BUT all those lovely Gemstone Golems, Altereds and GRIEVERS, God I hate those. So no deep exploration of the OP for me at that point.

That day I met a very smart fellow who decided to educate this BM-n00b (although he was several levels below me and decorated the countryside with his corpses quite nicely) and told me that "at my level" I need to be LSed in Ayan, I told him that is a great advice and minded my own business. Now there is a reason I stayed tied to Qualabar so long (actually until LvL 40). The Qual LS is right next to the Heb portal, very convenient as the weaponsmith in Qual and the armorer in Heb pay very well for loot, something to consider regarding comp costs. Also you can make the not very painful run to Mayoi from ther in about ten minutes. Also Qual is a big trading place with frequent FREE portals to the Sub, and from there you can get portals pretty much everywhere, that is how I got lateron to the OP BSD and finally Ayan.

Syyn always posted about his trips through the south direland portal by Mayoi, so when I mad a trip to the Archmage there I just decided to check it out. When you arrive, up the hill is a plateau and you can run around there and vuln critters in the valley and also kill stuff that spawns on the plateau, interesting an fun but no high XP yield at that level, killed bunch of Lugies and Granite Golems, got two motes and then I killed my first ever Obsidian Golem and it was quite a task with LvL IV spells I can tell you. Vuln & war then run, return , next war then run, return….you get the picture. After four-five runs I finally got him and a nice screenshot. I was LvL 37 by now and called it a day, at least I got some motes. But I needed to find a new place with excitement and possibley some Tuskers in not too big numbers.......patchday was coming up (May 1st, 2001).

To be continued..........
