BM takes creature at 20, news at 11
Over the past couple weeks, I have been playing a new BM to fill the time when allowing my friend to keep up in levels with my McWar mage. I wanted to choose something new and fun to play and since the BM has always been something I wanted to finish, I made a BM. I already had a level 24 BM that took item, but it was not very fun to play in comparison to any of my other mages that level, so I left him on hold.

After completing my McWar mage with out item until level 40, I found it to be fun and decided that a BM with creature just might be the mage I wanted to play with. So I set out to reroll my first BM and named him Wulger. (Kept my other BM as a portal mule). My starting stats and progression are layed out as follows:

spec: War, Life, Loyalty
MC @ 7, Creature @ 20, Item @ 50
70/40/10/10/100/100

Now that he has been given birth to the world, I set him up with a set of explorer gear (life, war and creature wands, focus, end, and str jewelery), a low difficulty Willpower II ring, boots of the vault (Sprint V, Jump V, diff 10), GSA, solls, gaunts and Armet. I've taken the route many times without good equipment on my newbies, and I could have again, but thought it might allow me to get to my real goal sooner, level 20. (The creature wand was used to cast life or war mastery I, and arcane enlightenment I to allow me to equip the willpower II ring. Level I spells last as long as V's used to, so it's much more convenient now).

I started off on the Nanto beaches and leveled to level 10 very fast. The whole time I was there, I never saw a single person, which meant the beach spawns were all mine. The spawns seem to be as good as Mayoi beach, or Eastham beach, but since no one was in sight, the exp was much, much easier to gain. After level 10, I went to Halls of the Helm, since I've heard that undead and zombies were great exp. Unfortunately there were entirely too many people competing for kills there and I decided to go to Qalaba'r mountains instead.

There I fought mostly Lugians at a mountain pass NE of Qalaba'r. There is a nice lifestone just a few feet from these static spawning lugians. After 4 levels here, I decided it was time to try the dires.

At level 14, I went to the south dires, which is just a short run from my home town of Mayoi. I did pretty well, the drudge lurkers were fairly easy to kill, and I even killed a few raveners and stalkers. After seeing that I could hack it, I decided to take one of my mages to tie at Teth and recalled back to Mayoi. Now I have easy access to my hunting ground for levels to come.

At level 15, I shipped Wulger to Teth, where he lifestoned and hunted drudges and wasps for a few levels. A few deaths here and there and he made level 20! Now he trained up creature magic and double clicked a portal gem to get back to nanto where he sells and restocks his comps before running home to Mayoi.
BM takes creature at 20, news at 11

With creature in his grasps now, I spent some time learning all my level 4 creature spells and buffed up my war/life/mana c. What I saw:

war/life: 206
creature: 178
mana c: 160

Now that is some awesome stats for level 20 and I decided to learn armor V and Blud V to see if tuskers were killable. Well, I went from level 20-21 before I saw a tusker, but when I did, I flung my magic around and layed waste to him. Now that's power :)

Anyways, I'm level 22 now, after 1 day and 7 hours of play with creature in hand. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a complete mage with some inconvenience.

Currently, at level 22, my diet is as follows:
Drudges, lots of drudges
Iron, Copper and Granite Golems
Single Tuskers Slaves
Single Beserker banderlings

I plan to take my first Shadow Umbris at 26, and my frist Thrashers by 32.

Happy BMing

Wulger

Question and Answer :

That sounds great! kep us posted on your progress. I contemplated going that rout but I don't have the resources to get the armor needed to pull it off. When I get to 20, I'll reassess my armor stock and recheck here to see how you're fairing in your critical levels. I'm still unsure how you'll fair against tuskers, which tend to be the major source of xp for 35-50. You may be able to get away with leveling those levels well on other stuff, but I'm pretty sure mass tuskers are out of the question until you get item. On the other hand, I could most likely go to arelinth promptly at 45 and do well against corals, making your only real difficult levels 35-45. Good luck!

Well, unfortunately, my BM will not progress real fast. This is a 2ndary character. I love to play him thou, and I get him on as much as I can find time.

You are right about Tuskers, I won't be able to handle any more than 3 and that would be very rough. However, I have other mobs I plan to fight, like rev's and dar rev's, thrashers, shadow and what ever else I find.

I'm taking the approach of treating him as a complete mage without a need to finish, so he's just fun to play with no preasure.

"Diaries of an untwinked battlemage" eh?

Well, as far as twinking goes...I've layed it all out.

I have GSA (fairly important without item)
I have a portal mule (very important without item)

Outside of that, I'm untwinked.

As I have in said in many discussions, to go without creature, you definately want a portal mule, and GSA is a big big plus.
