Picking up from where I last left off, Wulger has spent most of his time around
Teth killing everything he can handle so that he can one day kill with the big
boys. He has taken a different approach than most battlemages of his kind, which
has not been an easy one. It seems he gets ridiculed every step he takes,
because he does not choose the standard path of a young mage. Luckily Wulger has
had a few people praise him which helped him continue his trek with the power of
creature magic in his hands.
Since his last adventures, Wulger has gained enough skill to kill a few Virulent
Grievvers in hopes that one day, he’ll find some organic acid so he can make a
door way to Lyceum, where he’ll stand trial to become a heiromancer. Wulger
has been killing them since level 22, suffering resist after resist until they
eventually fall. I’ve been alternating between whirling blade, force bolt and
shock wave to help keep my spell economy up.
Wulger has also added Besserker Banderlings to his meal. These are a small leap
in power toward a goal I want to reach with him in a few levels, Banderling
Thrashers. To fight these, I land a lightning vuln, then alternate between
draining health, stamina, and landing lightning bolts. Their loot kind of sucks,
but they are just a lot of fun to kill, reminding me of the days when Rauvan was
killing Thrashers.
Wulger, unlike most BM’s does not have item magic, which includes recall
lifestone, and recall portal. This has caused me to use a system of portal mules
and portal gems to get around. To get to Teth, I took one of my more experienced
mages and ran him through the south dires through a portal to Slaughterhouse,
and ran northeast to Teth. To get a tie close to Teth, I ran up the hill just
north of Teth and went into the lighthouse up top and made my way down to an
exit portal at the bottom that is tiable (the surface portal up top does not
exit at the same spot). I then recalled back to Mayoi, and sent my portal mule
through a summoned portal and had him tie to the same portal. Now everytime I
want to go to Teth, I just summon a portal and I’m there. I always carry
several portal gems to Nanto and Mayoi. I normally use the Nanto portal gems,
because they are cheaper, and Wulger is still not making enough cash to afford
the 22k it costs to use Mayoi portal gems. Nanto portal gems also give me the
advantage of a better sell rate and buy rate for comps. I then run from Nanto to
Mayoi for a ride back.
From levels 22-25, Wulger continued to fight around Teth. Killing drudges,
Virulent Grievvers, bandering besserkers, tuskers, iron golems, copper golems,
and even a couple obsidian golems. He was then ready for DoC. To setup for DoC,
I took a different portal mule and summoned up a portal to Black Hill near
Weijhou and sent my portal mule to make a tie just a little north at DoC and
recalled back.

Now with a way to DoC and portal gems to get back, I LS’ed in Mayoi and went
to DoC. I buffed up with IV’s in creature and V’s in life. I choose IV’s
in creature, since he still fizzles a bit with V's, and I need to be able to
buff up in battle. Wulger is a battlemage, and battlemages do wall hump, so
after I buffed up (using stamina from the drudges near the entrance to refull
mana), I headed to the back of DoC away from the wall humpers. Facing drudge
after drudge and even a few Virindi, which I promptly ran by. His kill dance
went as follows: bludgeon vuln IV, drain health, drain stamina, bolt IV, bolt
III if needed, then stam2mana. Frequently I added more drains healths as many
drudges blast me. When I first arrived, I was draining much more, but after some
closer analysis, I found I was spending so much time draining that I gave them
more opportunity to blast me which fed led me into a loop of drains and little
mana. I then realized the best way to combat this was to kill them faster, and
it worked.
I continued to fight my way to the back of DoC, facing piles and piles of
drudges as I reached the last room. I fought in a hallway just before the room
where several drudges spawn, killing them as well as drawing drudges out of he
room before me. I fought for a couple hours in DoC and ran out of Diamina, a
component for drains, so I quickly opened up my pack and double clicked on a
portal gem to Mayoi. I was only a few minutes from leveling and a little
disappointed.
So I sold and restocked my components and headed to Teth. One of my goals was to
kill an Umbris shadow at level 26, and I decided I was close enough to 26 to
give it a try. I summoned up a portal back to Teth and ran to town, buffed up
and learned level V war bolts, yield 1, and yield IV. After buffing, I ran to
the LS near town and reattuned myself there and went looking for Umbris.

It didn’t take long to find an Umbris. Wulger set himself at the edge of the
radar and took a deep breath. The moment he was waiting for was here. His first
step was to land yield I on the Umbris. He tried 2 times and ran. Eventually the
pack of shadow gave up chase and he returned. He tried to land yield I 2 more
times until it took hold and he followed it up with a yield IV a couple tries
later. After the Umbris was yielded down to reasonable level, I was able to land
a blade vuln IV my first attempt and wen to battle. Drain health, drain mana,
drain health, drain mana, was the sequence of spells until I was hit with the
worst possible fate, life ineptitude. Rather than running, I decided to stick it
out and found I could still drain about 1 in 3 tries. When his health fell below
40% health, I started plastering him with whirling blade V until he died,
leaving me with very little health.

After killing that Umbris, I had to rebuff, and I followed up that kill by
killing the other Umbris in the pack, which leveled Wulger to level 26.

Good times are ahead

Question and Answer :
Grats on levels and umbrises :-)
Sounds like Critter is working out well for you. Keep it up, its nice to hear
about ppl's experiences with 'the other path'

rising Of the House of Colier http://communities.msn.com/HouseofColier
Thanks
I've been working pretty fast toward my goals, I figure I'll
be have my frost stone in a couple more days. My jump skill is getting really
close to my goal to make the jump.
Then I'll be able to add Thrashers to my diet, which should speed up my exp gain
by quite a bit.
