Off and Running (BM with
creature since 20)
In my last journal, I just got my frost stone and just
started hunting banderlings thrashers in the dires.

So now Wulger is off and running able to fight most everything in the dires,
including thrashers and enforcers now. I spent time near the Accursed halls as
well as near Teth. I fought everything in sight except for harrower grievvers.
I’m sure everyone has heard the motto, “Kill everything!” and that is
exactly what I do. Time spent looking is time better spent killing.

When hunting, I move from spawn to spawn always in combat, but I don’t
necessarily kill everything I see. I instead, hunt the best mob that in close
proximity for my troubles then make a choice again after looting what I just
killed and continue forward killing constant as I go. I find myself fighting all
sorts of mobs and must be prepared for anything.

During this time, I continued to kill Virulent grievvers in hopes to get acid,
and what do you know.

Banderling hunting
While out in the dires, my favorite prey has been the banderling thrasher. To
fight these, I’ve used GSA with a frost stone I acquired at level 29. I also
use some al 183 gauntlets, an al 305 armet and I used to use al 183 solls, until
sometimes around level 30 I looted some al 223 solls off a thrasher, which
promptly replaced those.
To fight these all at once would be very tough boarding on suicide, so you must
use some tactics to hunt them. I use the old tag and run trick, but rather than
running until they all leave me, I only run until the thrashers have moved
beyond radar range of their pod, unless enforcers come with them. I’ve found
that thrashers will not fight you for more than one whack if they are beyond the
radar range of their spawn point. This makes it far easier to tackle them.

Notice that all but the one I’m draining ran back to their spawn point.
When I tag, I use yield other I. This spell is very fast, and if it lands, makes
the battle easier. I quickly hit the “;” to cycle to the next thrasher and
tag it as well. I try to tag 3 of them before I run. This will allow me to
return and not have to run again for subsequent fights.
Until about level 35, I would also yield other IV the thrashers before I fought
them. This made the many spells that were to follow much easier to land at the
cost of yielding as they run to me when I couldn’t do much anyways.
Sometimes around level 35 I learned level VI war bolts and found new found
power. No longer did I have to drain the banderlings down to do real damage. Now
I could handle large mobs of banderling berserkers and strikers. Banderling
berserkers and strikers became easy picking after this and thrashers became much
easier as well.

Panopticon
Looking for a change of pace, I decided to try out the Panopticon near Ayan
Baqur. This place is largely packed with drudge raveners and stalkers with 2
virindi, 2 tuskers and 2 hollow minions. Fighting from the start to the 2
tuskers and back would yield 150k exp per buff almost exactly, but there was not
enough mobs to share, or your experience would drop dramatically. I spent about
an hour or two there before I moved on.

Sparkling Stone
Since I had GSA, and wanted to do something fun, I decided to do the sparkling
stone quest. Not remembering how tough the quest was for a level 35 mage, I
decided I’d bring a friend along and off we went.
About the most dangerous part of this quest was the run to the vault. It’s on
the outer rim of the Obsidian planes. We got a ride from one of my portal mules
to black rock (near Weijhou) and ran alone the norther rim of the obsidian
planes.

Once inside, I buffed up for everything and proceeded down the maze with her.
After discovering at how easily I could handle the lightning elementals in the
dungeon, I jumped out at every opening to just blow stuff up. This kind of upset
my friend, who wanted to feel like the Uber mage for once. What can I say,
BM’s are powerful and kill above their level. After a quick fight, we made our
way to the last room and cleared it out in short order.

Halls of Metos
I’m level 37.5 now and handling the dires quite easily, so I felt it was then
time to spread my wings and try something new. Knowing how much experience
revenants are worth, and thought this would be the perfect mob to test my skills
against and so I headed off to the Halls of Metos. I sent one of my portal mules
to Black Hill and ran him to the Halls of Metos just to the east to tie then I
summoned up a portal and entered the dungeon for the first time.
I buffed up for all damage types, given that liches and revenants use all types
of bolts to my knowledges. I ran back and jumped over the acid pit and ran by
the iron golems to the revenant rooms.

When I showed up, there were several people here fighting, so I joined in to
test my skills. I was resisted quite a bit, but not too much to prevent me from
killing them. My first go around I made 150k and decided to give it another go.
After buffing up most of the people who were there before, had left and it was
just me and another lower level swordsman. Now that it was just the two of us,
things became more challenging, but the experience became much better.
To kill revenants with others around me, I found it was best to start with one
or two drains, then bolt without using a vuln. With others around, the time and
mana spent vulning didn’t produce much results, and generally by the time I
got around to bolting, the mob had only a sliver of health left.
After going a couple more rounds with just me and the other swordsman, more
people showed up and the experience went down again, so I figured it was time to
explorer what was beyond these rooms.
The first rooms after leaving the revenants were filled with obsidian golems
which did prove to be a challenging fight, one which I had to bring into the
narrow halls to provide a little cover with the constant borage of drains and
bolts. After taking out the golems I moved in further and found myself in long
hallway where I could freely buff without fear of being attacked. This was just
after going down a ramp beyond the golems.
I rebuffed and ventured further to find a bunch of revenants along many
hallways. This continued for several twists and turns until I reach one last
room full of golems, which I cleared out. This room had a pit and a surface
portal at the bottom of the pit. I didn’t find anything beyond this exited via
the surface portal and started back to the hallways full of revenants to make
experience.
From this point on, I was farming for experience and found myself making 250k
experience points every level VI buff session. It quickly catapulted me to level
38.5 and just might make a big dent in my journey to level 50.

Now that I’m nearing level 40, my options are really starting to open up, and
who knows where I’ll land next. For now, I’m going to get my Hieromancer
armor and have some fun.

Question and Answer :
Nice Diary
Is good to see you keep it up. One thought that occured to me while reading, and
thinking back on ye ol' critter vs item discussions. When you get your mage
armor, how do you expect it to work out defence wise, as i recall its prots
against the 'regular attacks' (slash, pierce and bludg) is only 25%?
Just wondering, i could imagin it would work well against Revenents, perhaps
shadows as well, while bandies, grievers and drudges would probably still be
best faced in the GSA
As said good diary, looking forward to next chapter
Mazoch - Battlemage (WE) level 35 and
rising Of the House of Colier http://communities.msn.com/HouseofColier/
I do not plan to use the WMA in combat until I hit 50. I use
it for buffing only. It will allow me to use creature VII's sparingly by about
level 45 and it's nice to lead off your buffs with mana c VI up already and +10
to creature.
By the way, I just kindled my war mage armor lastnight. It makes buffing go by
quite a bit easier (no low level mana c to start, I can start with the level V
creature mastery rather then a IV before hand and I don't need to cast
focus/self V before I get VI's on.)
