Halls of Metos

With the end of my last journal, I started hunting in the Halls of Metos. I found the exp killing revenants to be very nice (250k per buff) and the place was easy to get to with a portal mule tied to the entrance.

To kill them, I’d vuln blade/fire V, drain health, then flame bolt/whirling blade V. I would also drain mana if it was a freshly spawned revenant.

I spent most my time in the hallways behind the obsidians, because few people would fight there. Unfortunately, around level 41, I started getting competition back there and decided to leave.

War Mage Armor

At about level 39, just before turning 40, I set out to get my war mage armor. My friend also wanted to get her armor so we went as a team.

Once we arrived, we went and picked up notes to get us to the trials. We picked up a lot of them, since our goal was to work through the trials as a team, and each time you turn in a note, you get randomly teleported to one of five dungeons. To end up in the same dungeon, one of us would give the trainer a note and get teleported to one of the dungeons, while the other continued to turn in notes until they ended up in the same dungeon.

Now that we were in the same trial dungeon, we buffed up. I had my friend buff a robe for me, being that I don’t have item magic.

We quickly worked our way through the first dungeon without incident. I had her follow me the first trial to show her the layout so that she could lead the way through the harder dungeon. The 2nd dungeon used to test out what she learned as I followed behind her.

On the last dungeon, I noticed I got a lot of resists, but it didn’t seem to matter as we made our way through without any close calls.

After getting the armor, we needed to kindle it and headed off to Heiromancer halls. In the halls, you face a bunch of enforcers and thrashers on the first floor, iron golems in the back, and umbris and lightning elementals up above. So basically you need to buff for all damage types and bane for bludgeon/cold/lightning.

Being lazy, I didn’t bother to have my friend imp/bane my armor and instead I just worked along with her. I figured that with her there, I wouldn’t have to tank a lot. Well, it turned out I did have to tank, and managed to handle it quite well and felt the first taste of what it’s like to have both life and war specialized. Nothing resisted me much as we ran through the dungeon to the kindling stones.

I then headed back to the Halls of Metos to earn some more exp. I found after forgetting to remove the Exarch plate, before fighting the revenants, that I could use the armor when fighting these guys. Their hits through the unbuffed WMA, was 1-5 damage, which could easily be dealt with.

Heiromancer Halls

After I left Halls of Metos, I wanted to try something new. So I suited up and headed back to the Heiromancer halls. When I first arrived, I was kicking butt. I was easily tanking and killing them. I took a few mages to the kindling stones and even to the orb. It was quite a rush being the tour guide in such a treacherous place. It also allowed me to recolor my exarch plate to the color blue.

After the first day, I tried it again, but all of a sudden things weren’t working out so well. I kept dying for various reasons. Sometimes it was due to others carelessly dragging mobs around, and other times, it was an enforcers frost bolt VI. I also seemed to get an inordinate amount of hits to the hands and feet from the thrashers making me scream in agony.

After spending a level in there, I decided it wasn’t worth it and left.

Chalicmere Castle

After having a bad experience in the Heiromancer Halls, I went to Chalicmere Castle, which is the C-note way to Aerlinthe. There is a convenient lifestone located just outside, which made corpse recovery easy.

Outside this area, there are lots of thrashers, shadow, golems and basically any normal, north dire mob. What’s so nice about this area, is that is has long wide, open flat, ground to fire at mobs easily. This kept me entertained a little bit, but where I really wanted was to fight in the castle.

To get in, I picked the north side of the castle and killed the diamond golem from below and jumped onto the wall and over. After the fight, I was wearing life and war ineptitudes, which made things a little interesting. Basically, I felt like a 4 school mage again. However, there was some comfort in knowing that no matter what, it couldn’t get worse.

I made my way through the castle yielding and killing mummies, revenants, dark revenants, diamond and obsidian golems. It was quite a lot of fun working my way around, but I didn’t really enjoy wearing a full compliment of debuffs by the diamonds golems and packed my bags.

Serac Vault

While thinking about where to hunt, Serac Vault continued to call me from the back of my head, but I didn’t know how I could safely work in there. I was trying to think of how I could fight, buff and stay alive with my current knowledge of the place and all of a sudden it hit me.

“Why not hop onto the torch and jump to the end of the quest, then work my way backward?”

It’s safe where you first jump up, so I figured I could use it as my staging area, then fight backwards through the dungeon and run back to buff. Unfortunately, while moving backwards, I only ran into a few mobs before I fell off the path trying to make a jump.

I found myself in a room with only one exit and nothing inside. When I existed, I found myself in a vaguely familiar place. I saw dark revenants all over and a few people fighting. I took a left turn and followed this long hallway until I noticed I was at the entry point of the dungeon. I realized this was hugely significant, because I could easily get to a safe room to buff and get out of trouble now. No longer do I fear my buffs are going, and no longer do I have to fight my way out of every jam. I can now run to a safe spot in peace.

I quickly ran back past 3 openings on my right into the 4th one, which was the safe spot and buffed. When I exited, it was go time J. I fought with every ounce of skill I had, using healing and mana pizza’s to get me out of any jam I got into until my buffs dropped and quickly ran back to my safe spot to look at the experience I accumulated. 300,000 experience, jackpot!

After getting familiar with the spawns, I started pulling in more and more experience per buff, going upwards of 500k per buff cycle, but averaging closer to 400k.

I’ve spent most my time in this dungeon ever since then. To spice things up, I’ve gone through the frost stone quest the long way, which is very rough when you first drop down into the pit. Luckily there are some rocks that you can use to your advantage ;) Other times I’ve headed back to Chalicmere for short trips.

(oups, almost left this out)

I’m fighting hard to make level 50 in short order, now that I can see the finish line right ahead. (I’m actually level 47 at the time of writing this journal entry)

Happy BMing,
