Running Dungeons

Postby Amokk on Fri Jun 11, 2010 9:42 am

Being a Druid I have the ability to do all three jobs. Tank, DPS, Heal. I don't particularly care to heal, too much to keep an eye on. Plus I am not specced to heal. Balance and Feral are my specs. I know my DPS does not compare to say a Mage or even a Rogue. And I have heard too many stories from other tanks of the gogogo mentality of groups and /tankfail if you are not fast enough. Which is why I have stayed away from DF. Of the three specs I would likely go DPS since it seems to be fairly straight forward. Do lots of damage, don't pull aggro from tank. Would this be the best choice if I were to decide to try DF for the first time sans Guild?

That would be my suggestion.

* Select the DPS spec.
* Select the Random Lich King Dungeons (Not the heroic ones yet)
* Once you have some better gear, i.e. get rid of all the greens then you can do the heroics. :)
* If you have a 300 gold kicking around you may even be able to get 2 or 3 starter epics on the AH. I grabbed a couple when I first turned 80. Mind you once you get into the Heroics you will be replacing them all anyway :)

The DPS role is pretty good because you can just follow along and attack whatever the tank does. You likely should not have too much trouble with stealing aggro.

Running a boss mod like Deadly Boss Mods can be advantageous as some of the Bosses in the lich king dungeons can be nasty if you aren't paying attention.

I also had problems with complaints about my speed while tanking. I bought the duel spec and did a dps build. No more grief from others and the satisfaction of just being able to bash things.

Really torn on the whole running Dungeons. On one hand it would be nice to get some more blue gear and even some purple but for running around on the regular world where I kill mobs in a few seconds and don't even worry too much if I pull a second or third the extra gear is less important. But you need better gear to progress in the Dungeons.

I'd say do a few dungeons as DPS and see if you find it fun.
The gear will come just as a result of having fun.
If after a few days you enjoy it, you can progress with yer shiny new gear to the more challenging dungeons.
There is good money in it too if you are saving for something like an epic mount, or dual spec for an alt.

That is one good reason. I have stopped questing since hitting 80 because of not getting XP. Prefer to save that for the level cap raise. Thus I am not getting gold now either.

Might give it a go as DPS. At least I just have to follow and stay out of trouble. Tank should have an idea where they are going and lead the group whereas I have no clue.

As an added bonus, if you follow for a while you can learn the routes, and see what kind of pace the experienced, non asshat tanks run at.

Three dungeons run tonight, 6 item upgrades. GS went from 2100 to 2430. Awesome! 7th item from Ash. All in all a pretty good night with good groups. Could turn out to be fun.

The Dungeon Finder definitely works for players like me. I was a little concerned with being a drag on any group I was in due to simply never grouping for dungeons and thus lacking experience and gear. But the DF seems to group you partly by gear score as everyone in the two groups were close to me in score. Last night also confirmed me not being Tank as both Tanks led the way and we simply followed along. The Healers knew exactly what to do and when to do it so good thing I did not choose Healer. For me DPS works as it allows me to contribute without as much risk of wiping the group.

First group I was in the 79 DK was an ass and left a few minutes in. The other guy realized he was going to gain nothing in the dungeon and bolted. I'm think....... here we go. Then the Tank pulls in a ringer Healer with a GS of 5600. We rocked from there on, to the point we all agreed to run a second dungeon. Last group I was in was all business. Very little talking, the Tank lead the way with the Healer right behind. Us DPS just attacked whatever the Tank was attacking. A fun run.

I know at some point I am going to get in the crap group but so far after the first night I think I will use the DF more. If anything to at least keep up with the rest of you on Guild Night. And for gold of course. Always been a loot whore but usually a green loot whore. If I managed a blue item that was awesome! Purple? That is the stuff of legends. Although I am thinking of maybe grabbing one purple off the AH. But for now my goal is to be all blue with no green. Before last night I had 12 green and 2 blue, now I have 6 green and 8 blue.

Sign up for dps for Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection before doing any heroics. Period.

Granted you did the quest chain to unlock these dungeons.

The normal versions as well as heroic give you emblems of triumph for boss kills which can be used to purchase your T9 gear. Plus, in the normal versions epics are dropped from the bosses instead of blues like any other normal dungeon. You will get scowled and glared at if you hop into heroics with shit gear from normal quest.

I don't know about any of the tanks you guys have ran with, but when I am the tank in a group I take control of the whole thing. I run that show. And I boot crappy dps and healers. So I would just suggest you try your hardest to share the workload of the group.

DO NOT BUY EPICS OFF THE AUCTION HOUSE.

Never say never but I doubt I will be doing Heroic Dungeons. The regular dungeons are basically filler till Cat comes out. Mind you filler that is getting me better gear. Once Cat is out I will be back to soloing until I hit 85. :D

When I go into Dungeon Finder the Heroic Option is grayed out.

If you never do heroics, you're going to be waiting very long queues for the normal dungeons.. especially as a dps. For heroics the wait is usually 15 minutes and up. For normals? Well... I can't say, but it will be longer because most people are doing heroics instead.

Last night first dungeon was 2 minutes, second was 15 minutes.

When I Tank it is always with the Guild. Ash leads as he has been there before. Dizz controls who gets booted. I follow orders. That is why I don't check Tank in DF, don't feel I know the dungeons enough to lead. As DPS last night I would come in 3rd mostly but at times I would be 2nd. No one complained so I guess I was doing okay.

That is a big reason I held off doing dungeons. Since I had not done any and thus was decked out in green I felt I was going to be too far behind the curve gear and skill wise.

I liken it to PvP and Warhammer. I am not a fan of PvP and avoid it like the plague. But War's Scenarios worked well for me and I enjoyed them.
