Dual Spec differences

Postby Amokk on Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:53 am

Main spec is Feral Tank/DPS. Up close and personal. Gain combo points for use on finishers.
Secondary Spec is Moonkin spell DPS. Root then blast with spells. Mob dies before reaching me.
Two totally different styles of play which gives me options on how I want to play.

Curious as to how others dual spec. Priest I know can be healer or DPS. Mage.........different DPS? What have you specced and how do you use them?

For mage, my Arcane build is the pure DPS spec and really shines at single target DPS. It's all I use for the dungeons now.
Other side is Frost spec. Sacrifices some DPS to increase survivability with my ice barrier ability. Also my AoE Blizzard spell on the frost build has the chance to root the mobs and slows them by about 70 percent.

I use frost when I am out on my own doing stuff. The other day I was out hunting 80 elite's. As Arcane I was able to bring them down fairly quickly but came close to death fairly often. On the Frost build I finished most of the fights with full or near full health, but it took about 25% longer to kill them.

Interesting. Never even thought about killing elites. Something to give a go at tonight. :)

Yeah it was something I had to do to get reputation with a certain faction. Can go back and kill all those stupid things that may have wronged you in the past :)

Second piece of set armor plus some nice boots, gems and enchants and my Moonkin is up to 3800 GS and hopefully a good boost in his damage output.

On my priest right now I have 1 spec holy the other discipline. Holy is more reactive and better for protecting mainly the tank only It has lots of good group heals though when things get tough. Disc on the other had is very proactive where you basically bubble everyone and keep heals bouncing around and when the shit hits the fan you use penance and flash heal when things get really bad. Lately I've been running strickly Disc even completed Pit of Saron heroic a few times with it so it seems to be my go to spec now. I might switch my holy back to shadow for face melting goodness.

On my warlock it's pretty easy Affliction while I solo, with this spec right now I end every fight full health and full mana it's pretty damn cool to do so too. While grouping I switch to destruction for massive dpsing. I can top the dps charts in a lot of my groups now with this spec but you pretty much need a healer to to pull if off thus it's a grouping only spec.

Stress relief? Because sometimes you just want to go out and have fun without dealing with anything? I guess it depends on your job but some days after dealing with work related crap it is nice to log into WoW and just blast the shit out of stuff.

Well it's not a given that I end up that way just because you're 70+ and affliction. You still have to play it him right depending on the situation. I'm not going to say it's hard though. I'm basically through with that spec cause yah when I hit 80 on him I'll probably not touch affliction again and focus on destro. My lock is not my favorite character by far.

Agreed

And, for the record, I kick first graders, not kittens.
