wow that's just.. wtf. I mean I don't really care about who knows my name it's really easy to find and even rather unique and I know what's out there on me. But for a company that has a message every day when I log in that says something to effect of "Gold farmers are trying harder than ever to hack your account... " they do something like this to expose even more about your account? really?
So now posting on their forum is even more risk to your account and all in the name of cutting down on trolls lol who cares about trolls we're not noobs we know who they are and how to deal with them ourselves this is the internet after all.

Really the only reason why this bothers me is that it's going to basically kill one of my resources for game information, I won't post anymore not that I did much before.

Agreed. I don' t have anything to hide online, if you want to find me you can, but I have always tried to keep my game names separate from my real name. When I'm in game my name is Ash. End of story.

I'm sure the account hackers and gold farmers are just pissing themselves with glee over the new window into potential password stealing options and social engineering oppourtunities.

It's irresponsible, and wholly unnecessary in my opinion.

yea.. actually funny that they are giving the hackers the tools they need.. Like Blizz doesnt have enough problems with this...

And there also is the matter of many people just dont want there names out there ...

cpl reasons come to mind..

1. im sure there are many famous people who dont want there name out there ...

L2P u r fail ... says Barak Oboma for ex.. just joking a bit but many famous people play.. im sure..

2. professionals ... im sure lawyers ,Drs for ex .. really dont want there clients knowing or bothering them online.. and with. 11 mill it is possible..

3. Now you know the real life name of the guy that has been bothering and griefin you in game .. if they can hack you(and Blizz just made this eaier) they can find you... they can make life miserable for your personal life and career...

4. Folks who RP there oposite gender for whatever reason...ALong the same line , how about girls in RL idnetity now being out there and all the 15 year old wow tards harrassing them in game..

5. Some employers frown on such a thing ...

6. will Blizz plan on selling additional security for your privacy like there key chain thing...

I am predicting Blizzard ends up back tracking on this change. If not you will see a lot less traffic on the forums.

That is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. Good thing I don't post on the forums there. Heck I think I only looked at the forums once or twice. I am sure I am missing out on some good info as a result.

Makes me wonder if a company that tells everyone to protect the account and then turns around and gives hackers and farmers vital data on a silver platter, is this a company worth giving your money too? I can not stand liars, cheaters or hypocrites. With this decision, blizzard has showed they are hypocrites. Its too bad, I was going to be back in the game in a few more weeks. Looks like I just saved some cash

Ok , maybe I am overreacting to something that does not affect me but the idea really bothers me. As Ash said this is very irresponsible.

Over 11,000 posts. Most of them negative and strongly opposed.

Will it be enough...I doubt it.

Will it make me cancel, doubtful, but I certainly won't be using the forums.
Neither will many others from the looks of it.

At 4pm it was at 272 pages, now it's at 599. Huge response. Still think Blizz will have to rethink. Otherwise a great opportunity for another WoW forum to step up and get a boost in members.

As for me I read the forums but never post so no biggie for me.

lol with their statement that many post will only in their minds enforce their decision. It's not worth quiting over but it's very silly to kill their forums like that but maybe that was their intent.

All indications are pointing toward the fact that Blizzard will completely ignore the outcry of the player base (no surprise there) and continue with their plans for Real-ID.

They are aiming to build a gamer-central social network akin to Facebook whether anyone wants it or not.

Such is life. This is but phase 2. Phase 2 will not remove me from the game. I will reserve judgment on further phases. I can say for sure that I won't be running around a game with my real name floating over my head.

I have accessed the Parental controls in Battle.net and have disabled the Real-ID features on my account.

I just read about how to do that and will do so tonight.

1865 pages, never seen a thread so long.

What things like this make me wonder is; just how many of the rage quitters actually quit and never come back?

I'm guessing it's like 5% of the people who've cried QUIT on the forums.
